The Frosted Effect
Frosted glass diffuses the light into a soft, even glow with no hotspots, which matters when several bulbs sit together in a chandelier or multi-arm fitting and all of them need to look the same. It's also the right choice inside fabric or paper lampshades, since clear glass can cast visible filament shadows onto the shade.
