Which festoon bulb shape creates the best look?

Round (G45 or G95) festoon bulbs produce the most even, classic festoon appearance. Vintage Edison (ST64) adds a filament character suited to rustic or industrial outdoor settings. GLS (A60) is the most practical and lowest-cost option for long runs.

For most garden installations, round G45 in warm white is the default starting point.

Do I need shatterproof festoon bulbs?

Shatterproof bulbs use a polycarbonate envelope instead of glass, making them impact-resistant and safer in high-traffic areas, commercial venues, and installations at lower hanging heights. For permanent residential installations at standard festoon height (2.5m or above), glass bulbs are adequate. For events, commercial venues, or low-hanging runs, shatterproof is the practical choice.
