The GLS is the bulb that does most of the heavy lifting in a UK home. It goes into the ceiling pendant in the living room, the floor lamp by the armchair, the hallway fitting that greets you at the door. It is also the bulb most people buy on autopilot, which is a missed opportunity: CRI 90 to 97+ in a GLS bulb transforms the character of a room for roughly the price of a cup of coffee.

Dulora's dimmable GLS range covers E27 and B22 bases in clear and frosted glass across Extra Warm 2200K, Warm White 2700K, and Soft White 3000K. Clear glass shows the filament for exposed fittings; frosted glass diffuses the output for shaded fixtures.

All 230V dimmable models are compatible with a quality trailing-edge LED dimmer LED Light Dimmers from 1 to 100% without flicker at any level. For the candle range, see Candle Bulbs. For round globe forms, see Globe Dimmable.

Dimmable GLS Bulbs: The Practical Upgrade That Changes How a Room Feels

E27 or B22: which base does my fitting use?

E27 (Edison screw, 27mm) and B22 (bayonet cap, 22mm) are the two standard GLS bases in UK homes. B22 is the traditional British fitting and remains the most common in older properties. E27 is increasingly standard in newer fittings and imported lighting. Remove the existing bulb and check the base before ordering; the two are not interchangeable.

Clear or frosted: which glass finish should I choose?

Clear glass shows the LED filament through the envelope, producing a sparkle quality suited to exposed fittings where the bulb is visible: open pendants, cage lights, and decorative fixtures. Frosted glass diffuses the light into a softer, more even output with no visible element. It is the practical choice for shaded fittings, where you want warmth and even coverage without glare.

If the bulb is hidden behind a shade, frosted is almost always the better option. If the bulb is visible, clear adds visual character.

Which colour temperature works best for a GLS bulb?

Warm White 2700K is the most versatile choice for UK homes: warm enough to feel inviting, clear enough for general use across the day. Extra Warm 2200K suits living rooms and bedrooms used primarily in the evening, where a deeper amber creates a more atmospheric quality. Soft White 3000K is marginally crisper and works well in kitchens and utility spaces where a cleaner light is preferred without moving to cool white.

For whole-home consistency, 2700K across every fitting is the simplest approach.

Why does a trailing-edge dimmer matter for LED bulbs?

LED bulbs draw far less power than the incandescent bulbs older dimmers were designed for. A leading-edge dimmer rated for 60W incandescent loads may buzz, flicker, or fail to dim properly when driving a 7W LED. Trailing-edge dimmers are designed for the lower wattage and different electrical characteristics of LED loads.

All Dulora dimmable GLS bulbs are tested with trailing-edge dimmers. If your existing dimmer is causing issues, replacing it with a trailing-edge model is almost always the fix. See LED Light Dimmers.

Frequently Asked Questions: Dimmable GLS Bulbs

  • What CRI rating do Dulora dimmable GLS bulbs have?
  • Dulora dimmable GLS bulbs are built to CRI 90 to 97+ across the range, with select premium models reaching CRI 97+ for near-perfect colour rendering. The difference compared to standard CRI 80 bulbs is visible in warm tones, timber, and textiles.
  • Do Dulora GLS bulbs dim smoothly?
  • Yes. All dimmable models dim from 1 to 100% without flicker or buzz when paired with a compatible trailing-edge LED dimmer. See
  • What is the difference between clear and frosted GLS bulbs?

  • Are Dulora GLS bulbs certified for UK use?
  • Yes. All Dulora GLS bulbs carry CE/UKCA certification for UK mains voltage and are covered by a three-year product warranty.
