Which candle bulb base fits my fitting?
The base determines what physically fits your lamp holder, so it is always the first decision to make. Five bases cover the full range of decorative fittings in UK homes, though the last one is a specialist case.
E14 is the small Edison screw at 14mm, appearing in compact chandeliers, bedside table lamps, wall-mounted sconces, and decorative pendant fittings throughout the country. E27 is the standard Edison screw at 27mm, found in larger chandeliers, floor lamps, and statement pendants. B22 is the standard bayonet cap, the traditional British connection type, common in older UK ceiling pendants and floor lamps. B15 is the small bayonet at 15mm, found in compact bedside lamps and decorative fittings where the standard B22 holder is too large for the scale of the fitting. E12 is the miniature Edison screw at 12mm, found almost exclusively in imported American-style candelabra fittings. It is uncommon in UK homes but worth confirming before ordering.

Which colour temperature is right for a decorative candle fitting?
For most decorative candle fittings, the choice comes down to Extra Warm 2200K or Warm White 2700K, and the decision turns on how the fitting is actually used. Extra Warm 2200K suits fittings used primarily for evening atmosphere; Warm White 2700K is the more practical choice where the fitting also needs to provide useful ambient light during the day.
Extra Warm 2200K produces the deeper amber that most people are picturing when they imagine candlelight. It suits dining chandeliers, bedside lamps, and decorative sconces in living rooms and hallways where the quality of the evening light is the point. Warm White 2700K is marginally more neutral, still clearly warm, but versatile enough to serve well at full brightness in a multifunctional room. Do I need a dimmable candle bulb, and what difference does it actually make?
A dimmable candle bulb paired with a quality trailing-edge LED dimmer effectively turns a single fitting into several, depending on the time of day and the occasion. The chandelier set to full brightness for Sunday lunch is the same fitting turned down to 10% for a quiet weeknight evening, with no rewiring and no additional fittings required.

Are standard 230V candle bulbs suitable for bathroom wet area zones?
Standard 230V candle bulbs are not rated for direct water exposure and should not be installed within defined wet area zones in UK bathrooms. UK bathroom wet area requirements are governed by BS 7671 and Part P of the Building Regulations, which set IP rating requirements by zone proximity to water.
