230V Mains-Voltage Bulbs: The Range That Fits Every Standard UK Fitting

How do I know whether my fitting is 230V?

If the fitting is hardwired into the mains supply of a UK home and has a standard E27, E14, B22, B15, or GU10 socket, it is almost certainly 230V. The only common exceptions are bathroom wet area fittings that use a 12V driver (typically with MR16 or G4 bulbs) and older halogen track systems that may use 12V MR16.

If in doubt, check the fitting label or the existing bulb. 230V is printed on the label of any mains-voltage bulb.

Do 230V bulbs need a driver or transformer?

No. 230V bulbs connect directly to UK mains-voltage fittings with no additional hardware. This is the primary practical advantage of 230V over low-voltage alternatives: simpler installation, no driver to fail, and no compatibility matching between bulb and driver.

A trailing-edge LED dimmer is recommended for dimmable models LED Light Dimmers, but this replaces the existing light switch rather than adding additional hardware.
